Major Events Fund

A major event is defined as 'An event of national, cultural, social and economic significance'.

Venture Taranaki attracts, hosts, and invests in Major Events on behalf of the Taranaki region.

Major events have the potential to bring economic, social, cultural, and marketing exposure benefits to the District.

Our strategic investment into Major Events contributes to the vibrancy and life of the region, attracting visitors, stimulating economic activity, and raising our region’s profile both nationally and internationally - leaving a positive legacy for the wider community.

The annual portfolio of Major Events will support a diverse range of events across the calendar year and across the region. These include a mix of arts, music, cultural and sporting events.

The Major Events funding round is supported by funding from the Taranaki Regional Events Fund.

Regional Events Fund

As part of the Government’s Tourism Recovery Package, a $47.75 million Regional Events Fund (REF) was made available to the nine International Marketing Alliance (IMAs) groupings of Regional Tourism Organisations. The purpose of the REF is to stimulate inter and intra-regional visitation through funding events that will encourage expenditure missed by international visitor markets.

The Western North Island IMA consists of Taranaki, Whanganui and Manawatu. Together the three regions were allocated $1 million over the four-year duration of the fund.
