This one-day walk across the Northern side of Mount Taranaki takes you on a 19km trek through a variety of breathtaking landscapes - from montane forest to subalpine scrub. beneath towering lava columns and across active erosion scars. You'll also explore a scenic alpine wetland with unique flora. Classic bands of vegetation have been zoned by altitude and make the trip a lesson in botanical adaptation. The Pouakai Plateau offers breathtaking views of the journey so far, with Mt Taranaki as a backdrop. The Kiwi Outdoors Shuttle bus leaves New Plymouth at 7.30am and takes you on a 30 minute drive to the Egmont Visitors Centre where your day-walk begins. The day is not technically challenging or dangerous, but more a test of stamina.
